Lewis Hamilton is contemplating taking a one or two-year deal to remain at Mercedes, which was bought into by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Friday. Ratcliffe, boss of petrochemicals giant Ineos, acquired a one-third share in the world championship-winning team and paid tribute to Hamilton, who is yet to sign a new deal beyond his current contract, which expires at the end of this month. Ratcliffe said: ‘Lewis is either the greatest or one of the two or three greatest. The situation with Hamilton’s contract is still fluid and hinges on whether Mercedes accommodate his demands of £40-plus million a year.
