Rory McIlroy has revealed the sporting investment he most wants is a stake in Manchester United. ‘Sports team ownership used to be limited to private equity and people who had a ton of money but now sports stars are becoming more savvy,’ said McIlroy, who has been following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ongoing £1.4billion ($1.7bn) bid for 25 per cent of United with a fan’s close interest. ‘I would have loved to have taken 0.00001 per cent of Manchester United when Jim Ratcliffe bought in. They asked me if I wanted to come on board and I said as a Man United fan I cannot go anywhere near that!’. ‘I felt like what happened in the car park galvanized the team.
