Qatar Grand Prix: Pirelli to be awarded new F1 tyre deal

Pirelli is to be awarded Formula 1’s next tyre contract but it is likely to be the Italian company’s last, BBC Sport has learned. F1’s tyre supplier since 2011, Pirelli fended off competition from Japan’s Bridgestone for the new deal. Domenicali came under pressure from some quarters to choose Bridgestone, which was in F1 from 1998 until 2010 and is highly regarded across the motorsport world. Senior sources have confirmed to BBC Sport this is set to be Pirelli’s last deal. Insiders say Domenicali has discussed with Bridgestone the idea of taking over from Pirelli in 2028 but the conversations are not yet especially well developed.
