Just hours after touching down in São Paulo, talk quickly turns to the David and Goliath battle between Formula E and Formula One. The organisation’s entire carbon footprint – including fan travel – is less than that of one Formula 1 team. ‘When Formula One was founded, it wasn’t as a sustainability platform. When I look at what’s going to happen, our cars are only going one way – they’re getting faster and faster. Around 70 per cent of a Formula E car is effectively the same for every team. After that, Formula One started doing their pre-race stuff and copying us, as well as special effects on our podium. Dennis is a test driver for Formula One so he knows the differences between the two cars better than anyone – and comes away with a poignant statement.
