Madrid will host a Formula One grand prix from 2026 in a 10-year deal believed to be worth about £400million. The hosting fees of some £40m, paid to Formula One Management (FOM), the sport’s owners, make it one of the two most lucrative contracts ever signed for a European race, alongside Hungary. The venue is projected to have capacity to host more than 110,000 fans per day across grandstand, general admission, and VIP hospitality. ‘There are plans to grow the circuit’s capacity to 140,000 per day over the first half of the agreement, making Madrid one of the largest venues on the F1 calendar.’. FOM say they are still in talks with Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya, and that there remains a possibility that Spain might host two races.
