Lewis Hamilton said motor racing saved his life, recalling his tough upbringing on a Stevenage council estate. Ahead of the inaugural Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, Hamilton said: ‘The youth is everything and sport can bring people together. The 37-year-old, still the only black driver in Formula One, has set up the Hamilton Commission to redress the lack of diversity in the sport. ‘It is exciting to be in Miami but there are some nerves because there is so much excitement around the race and the track is new,’ added Hamilton, who lies seventh in the championship after a tricky start to the season.
