KRISTOFFERSSON TAKES TQ IN CATALUNYA

Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson took the TQ (top qualifier) position in round seven of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, the Logitech G FIA World RX of Pirineus-Barcelona 2030 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, but didn’t have things all his own way in qualifying. Kristoffersson Motorsport’s Kristoffersson took the quickest time in Q1 and Q3 but in Q2, Monster Energy GCK RX Cartel’s Andreas Bakkerud, from Norway, claimed his first quickest time of the 2020 season, and with the Renault Megane RS RX. Kristoffersson and Bakkerud sandwiched Team Hansen’s Timmy Hansen, from Sweden in the Q3 results, and the same three drivers hold the top three placings in the Intermediate Classification ahead of the semi-finals, proving the good work done by the GCK and Hansen teams since the previous rounds in Riga-Latvia. World RX Drivers’ Championship leader Kristoffersson did have fortune on his side however, his Volkswagen Polo almost rolling at the first turn of Q2 after contact with KYB Team JC’s Robin Larsson, from Sweden. Kristoffersson and Bakkerud will start together on row one of semi-final one. Hansen brothers Timmy and Kevin Hansen, the one-two finishers from the Catalunya World RX round in 2019, will start together on row one of semi-final two, Finland’s Niclas Gronholm, the GRX Taneco driver, and GCK Bilstein’s Anton Marklund, from Sweden will take row two.
