If Felipe Massa had any sense of decorum, he would accept the result of a world championship that concluded 15 years ago. Admittedly, Massa came so close to glory himself that until Hamilton passed Timo Glock his family were jumping for joy in the Ferrari garage. ‘Simply put,’ the lawyers argue, ‘Mr Massa is the rightful 2008 drivers’ champion, and F1 and the FIA ignored the misconduct that cheated him out of that title. When Nelson Piquet Jnr deliberately crashed at the behest of his Renault masters, setting in motion team-mate Alonso’s victory, Massa pitted.
