Formula One chief executive, Stefano Domenicali, has hailed Ferrari’s acquisition of Lewis Hamilton as a ‘great decision’ and downplayed concern over Carlos Sainz finding a seat elsewhere. His arrival stunned the sport’s fans and competing teams alike as it was announced Hamilton would replace Sainz, who must now find a new seat at a rival team for next season. Hamilton will partner Ferrari’s top driver in Charles Leclerc at the garage led by team principal Frederic Vasseur – despite Sainz enjoying the stronger start to the new season, with some supporters criticising the decision to swap drivers. But with Hamilton, Ferrari has made a great decision, not only at a marketing level. Hamilton’s impending departure from Mercedes leaves Toto Wolff with a new driver to find that can partner George Russell in the team and Sainz is one name that has been mentioned.
