George Russell won the first prize of his Formula One career with victory in the Brazilian sprint race to claim pole position for Sunday’s grand prix in an all-Mercedes front row with Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen takes P4 ahead of Perez in P5, while Leclerc crosses in P6. Russell is four seconds ahead in P1 and will almost certainly start on pole tomorrow. P3 for Lewis as he breezes past Verstappen on turn three of lap 20, while Norris overtakes Magnussen into P7. Sainz is within a second of the Verstappen while Hamilton is a second behind him. Russell zooms over two seconds ahead of Verstappen while Stroll is given a ten second time penalty for forcing Vettel on to the grass. Russell zooms ahead of Verstappen as he struggles for grip, taking the Dutchman on the straight after coming out of turn 2. Meanwhile Hamilton is in fourth ahead of Perez, Magnussen, Norris and Leclerc. Russell is no longer in DRS range of Verstappen, who has just edged further ahead. Russell is still within a second of Verstappen in P1. Verstappen easily overtakes Magnussen and takes the lead as DRS is enabled. Magnussen and Verstappen get the formation lap kicked off, with most drivers on soft tyres.
