Daniel Ricciardo reveals he knew his relationship with McLaren ‘wasn’t working’ 18 months before he was axed – and Aussie star pinpoints the cause of his downfall

Daniel Ricciardo has revealed he knew his relationship with McLaren was not destined to last halfway through his first season with the team. Replaced by Oscar Piastri at McLaren, Ricciardo returned to Red Bull as reserve driver this season after failing to secure a seat for the 2023 season. While Ricciardo ended McLaren’s nine-year wait for a Formula One win as he triumphed at the Italian Grand Prix in his debut season with the team, his second year was dismal. Ricciardo finished 13th at the Hungarian Grand Prix on his return to Formula One last month, despite being hit from behind at the first corner.
