SUPER FORMULA’S season finale weekend came to an abrupt halt after a horror crash that sent a racer to the hospital. However, his race ended after just four laps as racers Hiroki Otsu and Ukyo Sasahara were involved in a violent crash. Otsu had attempted to overtake Sasahara at the famous 130R for 17th, but his Nakajima Racing car made contact with Sasahara’s TOM’S, sending both spiralling into the barriers. Sasahara’s car was also sent hurtling into the catch fencing behind the barriers with the impact tearing off the rear of his car. After the crash Otsu said: “In the early laps I passed several cars and it felt like I had the pace to go even further if I continued that way. “But while I was using the Overtake System I went side-by-side with another car [Sasahara], we made contact and crashed.
