Carlos Sainz lit up Monza with a shock pole position for Ferrari – beating record-chasing Max Verstappen by 0.013 seconds. Even the one cloud that hung over the Ferrari was erased as the stewards decided not to take further action against Sainz and team-mate Charles Leclerc for driving too slowly earlier on. Sainz, 29 on Friday, had the whip hand over Leclerc all afternoon. The Tifosi celebrated as if they had won the race, which Sainz is unlikely to do. He went faster second time around and beat Leclerc, only for Sainz to zoom in front of everyone with a late run.
