Fernando Alonso will get behind the wheel in the coming months as he prepares to return to Formula 1 next year. “Next year will be difficult,” Alonso admitted to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “But I didn’t want to sit still in 2021,” the 39-year-old insists. Alonso says he still sees himself as one of the very best drivers in Formula 1. However, he says he regards 2020 and 2021 as mere preparation years for the main event – the new rules in 2022. “I have a purpose and a hope for 2022,” said Alonso, “although I think it’s the same for many others.
