70 Years Ago: Fangio & Maserati Win At Monza

Seventy years have passed since Juan Manuel Fangio celebrated his first and only victory of the Formula 1 season, winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sept. 13, 1953. The victory was a highlight of a subdued season for the Argentine world champion, who would record his second of five F-1 championships the following season driving for Maserati. Fangio’s fifth and final title also came with Maserati in 1957. Maserati also announced it this year it will return to GT competition next season in the Fanatec GT2 European Series. Maserati’s racing debut came in 1926 with the Alfieri Maserati winning its class at the Targa Florio.
