‘We will keep a close eye on them’: Lewis Hamilton is bracing himself for title fight with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen after Dutchman wins 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton called on Max Verstappen to bring on the title fight after the Dutchman won the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone. World champion Hamilton struggled with his tyres to finish in second place, while Verstappen produced a sure-footed performance to move within 30 points of the Mercedes man after five rounds. Hamilton was delighted Verstappen has shaken up a season that has been all about Mercedes’ dominance, saying: ‘It’s great. ‘Obviously the Red Bull seems to be quite close in race conditions to us. Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas finished third, also hampered by his tyres on a relatively hot track. Max Verstappen celebrates following victory at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix on Sunday.
