Sir Jackie Stewart has urged Lewis Hamilton to retire from Formula One, as the seven-time champion continues to struggle this season behind the new generation of drivers. Hamilton, 37, is sixth in the drivers’ standings nine races in, which would be the worst result of his 16-season F1 career. And three-time champion Stewart admitted he thinks the time has come for Hamilton to pursue his various other interests. But Hamilton, who earns £40million a year, returned to partner new team-mate George Russell this season. And Stewart has advised him to hang up his driving gloves while he can to protect his legacy.
