Rally fans flooded into the small Argentine town of Mina Clavero to honour the memory of national sporting hero Jorge Recalde. They included an original Renault 18 that Recalde drove in the early 1980s and a replica of the Lancia Delta Integrale in which he won the 1988 Rally Argentina. “For me, Miki never asked Jorge to lift due to the respect he had for Jorge and the great affection that Argentinian fans had for Miki. “From that stage all the way to Estadio Cordoba [where the podium was] was an endless line of people who filled the stadium to receive Jorge Recalde,” he added.
